This is the culmination of work beginning July 2006 and continuing today. We have traced my father’s ancestors to three villages in Slovakia, Cary, Kuklov, and Chtelnica. The ancestry of my mother’s family has been compiled by my Aunt Terry, and the ancestry of my fiance Kristen’s family has been traced by her relatives.

Interesting Individuals

WWII Veteran Stephen Joseph Vajda Jr. (b. 1923) witnessed the Hindenburg zeppelin on it’s last voyage.

Stephen Vajda Sr. (b. 1898) pitched for a semi-professional baseball team, and once pitched against Hall-of-Fame pitcher Leon Cadore. Cadore pitched in the 1920 World Series for the Brooklyn Robins.

At the age of 8, Anna Justina Jurina (b. 1898) immigrated to the United States without any family members onboard. She had $5 with her.

Dr. Edwin Martin Shook (b. 1911) was an archeologist who studied Mayan ruins and was featured in Life Magazine and National Geographic.

Anna Theresa Ronga (b. abt 1902) married infamous Chicago mobster Frank Nitti in 1929.

Jessie Samples (b. 1876) was shot and killed on May 10, 1903 in Lee, Kentucky.

Revolutionary War soldier George Albin (b. 1758) served in the Commander-in-Chielf’s Guard, a special group of body guards for General George Washington.
